Following SuperPoligrip Recall in Japan, Chaffin Luhana Continues Investigation of Denture Cream Lawsuits

Today, the Japanese subsidiary of GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), announced that it will begin a voluntary recall on Poligrip denture cream in Japan.  The news follows GSK’s February 18th announcement that it will cease manufacture, marketing and distribution of Poligrip products containing zinc in the United States.  SuperPoligrip, the American product, and Poligrip EX, the Japanese product, both contain the mineral zinc, which if ingested in excessive amounts may cause extremely disabling side effects. The potential harm of excessive denture cream use was first acknowledged by GSK in 2009 when a new insert was added to Super Poligrip warning users that the adhesive contains zinc, and that using excessive amounts can cause “serious health effects.”

How many more consumers will be harmed if the current inventory remains on the shelves?”
