Chaffin Luhana Applauds Procter & Gamble’s Addition of Zinc Warning to Fixodent Website

Procter & Gamble(P&G), the manufacturer of the popular denture adhesive cream Fixodent, recently added a warning on their denture cream consumer website “DentureLiving.Com” alerting users to the potentially dangerous side effects of the zinc in their denture cream.  Chaffin Luhana, a boutique plaintiffs’ firm in New York, applauds P&G’s acknowledgment of this potentially dangerous ingredient, however urges the company to take larger strides to prevent consumer harm. The firm currently represents over 50 consumers who have used either Fixodent, or its competitor, GlaxoSmithKline’s (GSK) Poligrip, and have suffered from severe hematological and neurological side effects from the products.

P&G’s warning appears amidst scores of denture cream lawsuits, filed by Chaffin Luhana and other firms across the country. The suits, the first of which were filed by the firm last year, maintain that denture cream use can cause severe, irreversible heath conditions if used excessively over time. The online warning for Fixodent cautions consumers that excessive and prolonged zinc intake may be linked to adverse health effects. The site also answers the question, “Does Fixodent contain zinc” in the affirmative on the website’s “Frequently Asked Questions” section.  Previously neither P&G nor GSK alerted consumers to the presence of the ingredient, or it’s potential side effects. However, last month GSK announced it would cease manufacture, marketing and distribution of all Poligrip products containing zinc. Soon thereafter, GSK’s Japanese subsidiary recalled Poligrip from the Japanese market. Chaffin Luhana’s denture cream lawyers believe that not only should P&G follow suit and take their zinc containing products off the market, but further urge both companies to recall the product like GSK’s decision in Japan. Chaffin Luhana partner Eric Chaffin stated, “My clients are still horribly injured and this does not compensate them for their injuries.  It is satisfying to see GSK taking this product off the market.  We’d like to see Procter & Gamble wake up and act responsibly by following GSK’s lead to change this industry and withdraw Fixodent from the market.”
