Chaffin Luhana Continues Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella Lawsuit Investigations

Chaffin Luhana LLP, a mass tort litigation firm located in New York and representing consumers nationwide, announces their continued investigation of Yaz and Yasmin lawsuits. To date, over 600 Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella lawsuits have been filed in the multi-district litigation (MDL), which has been established in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois. Judge Herndon, who presides over the MDL, has appointed only 17 attorneys to the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee (PSC), including Chaffin Luhana founding partner Roopal Luhana.  Ms. Luhana is one of only two women appointed to the leadership of this national litigation. Ms. Luhana and the PSC member’s responsibilities include: coordinating and conducting pretrial discovery; examining witnesses; introducing evidence on behalf of all plaintiffs at hearings before the court; acting as a spokesperson for all plaintiffs at pretrial proceedings and in response to any requests by the Court; submitting and arguing motions; and exploring, developing and pursuing all settlement options pertaining to any claim or portion thereof in any case filed in the MDL litigation.

Chaffin Luhana currently represents hundreds of women allegedly injured by the popular birth control pills Yaz, Yasmin and Yaz’s generic, Ocella. Their claims include several serious Yaz and Yasmin side effect claims, specifically gallbladder disease, blood clots, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, heart attack, stroke and death. Various studies have been done on the severe side effects of oral contraceptives like Yaz and Yasmin birth control pills. Most recently, in August 2009 a study published in the British Medical Journal online concluded that the risk of dangerous blood clots is significantly higher in Yaz and Yasmin than with other oral contraceptives.
