Guiding Survivors Forward

Civil Damages Support Survivors’ Recoveries

We hold space for your story and your trauma. You will be believed. We will help you move forward.

If you or a loved one has been the victim of sexual abuse or assault, filing a police report is an important first step to bringing the attacker to justice. However, this process can be deeply traumatic for survivors and, even when the attacker is incarcerated, it frequently fails to provide survivors with the time and resources necessary for healing.

That’s why survivors of sexual abuse or assault are also entitled to bring a civil lawsuit against their attackers, even if the attacker was not found guilty in a criminal case or if no criminal case was ever filed. Civil settlements can provide the crucial resources survivors of sexual abuse or assault need to begin rebuilding their lives.

FAQs

According to the United States Department of Justice (DOJ), sexual assault is any nonconsensual sexual act, including when the victim doesn’t have the capacity to consent (e.g. when they are intoxicated or asleep).

According to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) sexual assault is any sexual behavior that happens without “explicit consent” of the victim.

Examples include:

  • Attempted rape
  • Rape, including date rape and elder rape
  • Fondling or unwanted sexual touching
  • Unwanted kissing, rubbing or groping
  • Forcing a victim to perform sexual acts like oral sex or penetration
  • Female genital mutilation
  • Human trafficking

According to RAINN, consent is the mutual, clearly expressed agreement to engage in sexual activity. The “yes” must be given without coercion, force, or hesitancy, and it can be withdrawn at any time.

If you experienced any sexual activity without your consent, it’s important to speak with a lawyer as soon as you feel ready. Even if you initially said “yes” but later withdrew consent, or if you froze or didn’t fight back, it is still sexual assault.

Our sexual assault lawyers are here to listen to your story, protect your rights, and connect you with resources to help you heal. We will never pressure you into taking legal action before you’re ready. A free, confidential consultation is the first step toward understanding your options and moving forward.

The American Psychological Association (APA) defines sexual abuse as nonconsensual or exploitative sexual behavior, or sexual behavior forced on a victim who is not able to give consent. This term is typically used to refer to sexual contact between an adult and a child but can occur within any trusting relationship.

If you believe you or a loved one has been subjected to unwanted sexual contact, our sexual abuse lawyers are ready to hear your story. You will never be rushed or pressured into any kind of action. Receive a free case review today.

According to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), sexual harassment is an unwelcome sexual advance, request for sexual favors, and other forms of physical or verbal harassment of a sexual nature that affect the victim’s employment, interferes with their work performance or creates a hostile work environment. It can be an offensive remark about a person’s gender, it can occur between different sexes or the same sex, and the harasser can be the victim’s supervisor, coworker, a client, or client or customer.

If you’ve experienced unwanted sexual advances, comments, or behavior at work or in another setting, you should consider speaking with a lawyer as soon as possible. Sexual harassment can take many forms, from offensive remarks to a hostile work environment, and it can deeply affect your emotional well-being and career.

Our sexual harassment lawyers will listen to your story, explain your legal options, and help protect your rights. You don’t have to face this alone. A free, confidential consultation can help you understand the next steps and decide how you’d like to move forward.
