Court Appoints Partner Roopal Luhana to Interim Committee in Zantac Consolidated MDL Litigation

New York, New York, Chaffin Luhana is pleased to announce that by Pretrial Order No. 4, on February 24, 2020, U.S District Court Judge Robin L. Rosenberg in the In re: Zantac (Ranitidine) Products Liability Litigation (S.D.FL.), MDL No. 2924  (“Zantac MDL”) appointed firm Co-founder and Partner, Roopal P. Luhana to the Plaintiffs’ Practices and Procedures committee.  This committee is one of two interim Plaintiff committees appointed to organize the initial stages of this national litigation.

The Zantac MDL was established by the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) on February 6, 2020.  All federally filed Zantac lawsuits are now consolidated (and future federal cases will be transferred) to Judge Rosenberg in the Southern District of Florida, where pretrial proceedings will take place.

Judge Rosenberg has set the date for the first status conference in the litigation for March 20, 2020, and encouraged counsel to be prepared to suggest procedures that will facilitate the expeditious, economical, and just resolution of the litigation.  Ms. Luhana and three other members of the committee will confer on the content and timing of early, standard procedural orders on filings that may be helpful in the litigation, coordinate with professor Jaime Dodge, Director of the Institute for Complex Litigation and Mass Claims at Emory Law School, and confer with defense counsel regarding the same to hopefully reach a consensus to efficiently move the cases forward.

Chaffin Luhana represents hundreds of consumers who used Zantac/ranitidine and were diagnosed with cancer.  The firm has been and will continue to work diligently to move this important litigation forward on behalf of those who allegedly developed cancer because of this drug.
