News: 1 airlifted after pedestrian vs car crash on North Vandergrift Bridge

WESTMORELAND COUNTY, PA — One person was flown to a local hospital Sunday night after being struck by a vehicle on Route 56 in Vandergrift, according to WPXI.

The incident occurred on the span of PA-56 that runs over North Vandergrift Bridge. Vandergrift police and fire crews responded to the scene at about 6:20 p.m.

Officials have not disclosed the circumstances of the crash, but only one vehicle was involved. The bridge was temporarily closed as a medical helicopter was called to land nearby.

As of this writing, no information on the victim or the severity of their condition has been released.

It was unclear whether the driver remained at the scene. No pending charges have been reported at this time.
