News: 1 killed, 2 others seriously hurt in Dunbar Township crash involving school van

FAYETTE COUNTY, PA –A 56-year-old woman died Monday afternoon after a multi-vehicle crash in Dunbar Township that seriously injured two others, including a child, reports WPXI.

First responders arrived on the scene on Furnace Hill Road after receiving a call at about 3:33 p.m.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, the woman was driving westbound when she tried to pass a vehicle ahead of her. During the attempted pass, a Connellsville Area School District van approached in the eastbound lane. Authorities said the woman was unable to return to her correct lane in time, resulting in a head-on crash.

The impact of the crash sent the woman’s car into the westbound lane. It was then hit by a third vehicle whose driver was unable to stop in time.

The woman died from her injuries at the scene, confirmed authorities.

One student aboard the van, along with the van driver, both suffered serious injuries and were airlifted to trauma centers. Two other students were taken to a hospital for minor injuries. The Connellsville superintendent noted all students on the bus were of elementary age.

An investigation remains underway, but NJSP said alcohol and speed appear to have contributed to the crash.
