News: 2 seriously injured, including New Sewickley police officer after I-79 head-on crash

BUTLER COUNTY, PA – A woman and police officer sustained major injuries after a head-on collision on I-79 on Tuesday.

According to KDKA, New Sewickley police officer Gregory Carney was traveling south in a patrol vehicle on I-79 near Lancaster Township. He lost control of the vehicle, crossed the center median, and struck a Jeep head-on.

Carney was taken to a hospital in Pittsburgh with serious injuries.

The 68-year-old woman driving the Jeep was airlifted to an area hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

The collision remains under investigation.
