News: Cyclist hit, critically hurt by SUV in Pittsburgh’s Strip District

ALLEGHENY COUNTY, PA — A woman was critically injured Thursday morning when she was hit by an SUV while riding a bike in Pittsburgh’s Strip District, reports WPXI.

The incident occurred at the intersection of 16th Street and Spring Way, between Penn and Liberty avenues, just before 9:00 a.m.

Pittsburgh Public Safety officials said the cyclist was riding south on 16th Street when a driver of a van stopped to let the rider turn onto Spring Way. As the cyclist began turning, she was hit by a driver in an SUV behind the van. The driver of the SUV told police the van had blocked her view of the cyclist before the wreck.

Medics rushed the female rider to a local hospital in critical condition.

A section of the road was shut down as emergency crews worked to clear the scene.

As of this writing, no charges are expected to be filed against the driver, according to Pittsburgh Police.
