News: Driver dies after wrong-way wreck on US-30 in Hempfield Township

WESTMORELAND COUNTY, PA — A 55-year-old woman died Thursday night after a two-vehicle collision on U.S. Route 30 in Hempfield Township, according to WXPI Pittsburgh.

The fatal crash took place on the eastbound lanes near Greengate Road at around 10:40 p.m.

A preliminary investigation shows the woman was driving a Nissan Rogue westbound on the eastbound highway when the car collided head-on with a Jeep Compass.

Authorities said the driver of the Nissan Rogue, a local resident, was killed in the accident.

The driver of the Jeep Compass, a 31-year-old Greensburg woman, is believed to have suffered serious injuries. She was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital where her condition remains undisclosed.

An eastbound lane at Greengate Road was blocked off during the emergency response and initial investigation.

No further information has been released at this time.
