News: Driver hurt as school bus crashes into cars, residence in West Mifflin

ALLEGHENY COUNTY, PA — A woman was hospitalized Thursday afternoon after the school bus she was driving struck a West Mifflin home, reports WPXI.

The accident took place in the 1500 block of Homestead Duquesne Road. Allegheny County firefighters and medics were dispatched to the scene at around 3:25 p.m.

Footage captured at the scene shows the school bus striking at least one parked car and then crashing through part of a residence.

According to the West Mifflin Area School District superintendent, the driver had just completed a run from the district’s middle school when the crash occurred. No students were aboard the bus at the time.

The extent of the driver’s injuries was unclear, but authorities said she is expected to recover. A witness said the driver was able to exit from the back of the bus without any apparent major injuries.

The struck home sustained serious structural damage, but no estimated costs have been released at this time.
