News: Student hit, seriously hurt by car on PA-228 near Mars Area Middle School

BUTLER COUNTY, PA —  A 13-year-old girl was seriously injured early Tuesday evening when she was hit by a vehicle on Route 228 in east Mars, reports WPXI.

Adams Township Police said the incident took place near Mars Area Middle School at about 5:30 p.m.

An early investigation indicates the girl walked into the roadway without yielding to traffic. Moments later, she was struck by an oncoming car and suffered serious injuries.

First responders rushed the patient by ambulance to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. No updates on her condition have been disclosed.

Authorities said the driver stayed behind and cooperated with investigators.

An investigation remains ongoing.
