News: Young woman killed, others hurt in crash on US-22 near Clyde

INDIANA COUNTY, PA — A 20-year-old woman died Sunday after a collision that left three other people injured on U.S. Route 22 near Clyde, reports WPXI.

The fatal accident happened on a span of US-22 (William Penn Highway) at Bethel Cemetery Road. WPXI first reported on the event shortly before 3:30 p.m.

According to investigators, the young woman was behind the wheel of a Honda Civic heading westbound, when, for reasons still unknown, she lost control of the car. Shortly after, the vehicle traveled over the median and entered the eastbound highway, where it collided with a Toyota Tacoma.

The driver of the Honda Civic was pronounced deceased on the scene, confirmed officials. She has since been identified as Brianna Sage Shaffer, of McKeesport, by the Indiana County Coroner.

Three people in the Toyota suffered undisclosed injuries and were transported to Conemaugh Hospital. No information on their conditions has been released at this time.

The wreck, which left both vehicles totally disabled, reduced US-22 to just a single open lane in both directions as crews worked the scene.

No other information has been shared at this time.
